A Biblical outline to think about Illegal Immigration: Private Property, Boundary Markers, Sojourners, and Self Defense

Private property is God’s design.

The bible speaks of boundary stones, the markers that indicate the boundary of private property. Proverbs warns, “Do not move an ancient boundary stone set up by your forefathers.” Proverbs 22:28.

8. You must not steal. (Exodus 20:15)
Do not take what is not yours. According to Martin Luther, “We must fear and love God, so that we will neither take our neighbor’s money or property, nor acquire it by fraud or by selling him poorly made products, but will help him improve and protect his property and career.”

10. You must not covet or desire your neighbor’s belongings. (Exodus 20:17)
Be happy with what God has provided for you and never want what belongs to others out of envy. “Have I looked with envy, jealousy or hatred toward the possessions, talents or achievements of others? Have I desired the downfall or loss of others out of evil intent that I might benefit? Have I grieved that God has bestowed greater blessings on others than on me?

Believers are to obey civil laws and authorities unless they violate God’s law

That includes immigration laws!

I’m praying that we would “love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,” (Eph. 5:25) A book I read a few years ago, The Household and the War for the Cosmos: Recovering a Christian Vision for the Family by C.R. Wiley, takes a look at the place of the household in God’s divine order of the cosmos from Ephesians. Christ’s defeat of death and Satan and His redemption of His people (1:10,21,22; 2:4-10,19-22) , the establishment of the Church and its work (3:10,11), and then the next battle formation is surprisingly the household. Wives, husbands, children, and bondservants (5:22,25; 6:1,4,5,9). Then it concludes with the armor for the battle (6:10-20). With that in mind I pray we would see how important our households are in the divine order and the battle for the cosmos, and that we would pray for our helpmeet in this important work.

The Bible tells us that Jesus suffered for us and died in our place to literally save the world. This is ultimate suffering that saves us from ultimate suffering. The punishment kind of suffering.

But it doesn’t mean that Jesus saved us from ALL suffering. What it means is that God ensured that the suffering we experience has a good, strengthening quality to it. Jesus suffered so that our suffering would have a purpose and ultimately a good result.

Now when we suffer, we grow, because Jesus conquered the futility of life.

There is a God that created the heavens and the earth. We humans are created in His image.
