Enchant (latin: encantio): to speak meaning into.

If the church is not reenchanting this fallen world with God’s truth and grace, then it is being disenchanted with the lies of Satan!

Household Prayer 10/19/2020

Brothers, let’s pray for the larger Bethany CC community this week. For good health as we enter cold and flu season. Pray for successful logistics around the holidays. Pray for the fruit of the Spirit to dwell in our households and our community: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. And that our community and families would bear witness to God. (Gal. 5:22-24)

Brothers, 2 prayer thoughts this week.

First, that our children would find their value and self esteem in God. I pray that our children understand that they are actually God’s workmanship, that they are actually created in Christ Jesus, and that God has actually created them for good works that God prepared for them! (Eph. 2:10)

Second, that we would not depend on the church to disciple our children, as good as church youth programs are, but I pray that we would discipline, instruct, disciple, and model the Christian walk with God in our lives before our children. (Eph. 4:1-6:4) I pray that they would see us carrying out the great commission as we teach them “to observe all that” Christ has commanded us. And I pray that God would use them in mighty ways for His kingdom in the future. (Matt. 28:18-20)

Household Prayer 10/6/2020

This morning I was reading about “information warfare” for work. I thought about how Satan’s lies against God’s truth were the original information warfare. “Did God actually say…?” (Gen. 3:1)

So I wanted to pray that our children would be filled with the Holy Spirit and “the divine power to destroy strongholds.” That we would pass on our love of God and equip them through instruction so that they may “destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:3-6)

Heavenly Father, help us by Your Holy Spirit, to be examples to our children in prayer, in love, in evangelism, and in our handling of God’s word. To instruct them and equip them for the work you have prepared for them. (Eph. 2:10)

Brothers, let’s pray for our families as we love and labor instructing and discipling our children.

Pray for our children, that they may receive the Holy Spirit so that Christ may dwell in their hearts through faith.

Pray that our children, our spouses, and we ourselves may have the strength “to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth” of Christ’s love.

Household Prayer 9/22/2020

There are a few events happening locally and nationally. So lets focus this week on family and national revival.

Pray that a real spiritual and familial revival will take place in our homes, churches, and America even as the nation seeks to redefine God’s plan for the family. Pray for there to be an increased dependence upon God the Father as we lead our children spiritually, emotionally, physically and academically.

Read Ezra’s prayer of repentance, Ezra 9:6-15.

Pray!

Brothers, this week let’s pray earnestly for a vision of the majesty of God! May God make His presence known to us and our families in new and glorious ways, and May we be renewed with excitement to know God and to make Him known. May God grant us and our wives energy and wisdom to teach and instruct and disciple our children. All the more with reports of the unhealthy condition of American Christianity today, that our families may reform the church and reenchant the world with God’s truth and grace!

Distressing “State of Theology”

AIG published a summary of the distressing results of the Ligonier Ministries “State of Theology” survey. They summarize as such…

“So 80% of evangelicals will say that the Bible has the authority to tell us what to do, and 90% claim the Bible is their highest authority, but these results show that they either (1) don’t actually believe that and/or (2) have no idea what the Bible teaches on various moral issues to allow it to guide their principles and beliefs! What a mess the church is in!” (1)

They made this observation among others…

“Parents, particularly fathers, have abdicated their role in discipling their families in the ways of the Lord, leaving it to the church . . . or simply not emphasizing or prioritizing it at all.” (1)

I would add to that observation that many churches don’t actually disciple and train, in other words, they don’t “equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,” (Ephesians‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭ESV‬‬).

In case we might question this survey, here is another that confirms it…

“Last month, Arizona Christian University released a study called “The American Worldview Inventory, it’s a project led by George Barna. According to the report, nearly two-thirds of Americans believe having “some kind of faith” is more important than the specific faith a person chooses. And, almost 70 percent of those who gave that response identified as Christians.” (2)

Where to start?

“Ultimately, as much as this is a problem in churches, if we truly want to see generational change, we must start in the home with families. Ultimately, the spiritual discipling and training of children is not the job of the church. The church is to come alongside parents and families, supporting them in their God-given mission to train up a child in the way he or she should go. Parents—your family is your responsibility and it should be your first and primary one! Nothing is more important than discipling your children in the ways of the Lord, in his Word, and in the gospel!” (1)

Fear God

Knowledge is a grace of God. It is a gift and kindness of God.

Forgetting God

I observe today a timid church that has no influence on the culture. A church that has forgotten its fear of God.

Complacency: Ease, prosperity, complacency

When life is good, easy, prosperous, we can tend toward fearing what might disrupt our comfort more than fearing the God of all comfort! What could disrupt our comfort? Man’s opinion of us and our beliefs? Being considered hateful and bigoted for standing on truth? Losing a job for our convictions?

What could we reap if we sow complacency and forget our fear of God?

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”

The Cosmic Battle

You, mothers and fathers, your homeschooling households are on the front line of the Cosmic spiritual battle!

I do not mean this lightly. You are critical in the effort to reform a complacent church with the fear of God and reenchant a disenchanted world with the grace and truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ, “who is blessed forever! Amen.” (Romans 1:25)

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.
