Household Prayer 12/02/2020

Will we choose Liberty or “become prey of that more desolating and more cruel spoiler than war, pestilence, or famine – absolute rule and endless extortion… our parent state will think us worthy of her, when she sees that with her liberty we inherit her rigid resolution of maintaining it against all invaders. Let us give her reason to pride herself in the relationship.”

Speech in General Congress of America 1775, unknown, “The Christian life and character of the civil institutions of the United States” Benjamin F. Morris. 2007,1864

Brothers, this week I want to pray for America. We do not have a President Elect yet. However, there is a lot of media mis-information and censorship. The election matters to Christians and in particular Christian homeschoolers. I sat in on the Family Research Council prayer tonight (https://prayvotestand.org) and it was really powerful. I pray God’s will be done. I pray that if there is corruption lying and cheating in this election that God would reveal it, and that He would bring the wrong doers to justice. Truth and justice, God, is what we desire. God, may the events of this year awaken the church to renewed faith, discipleship, and evangelism.

Read 2 Samuel 23 and Psalm 82

“The God of Israel has spoken; the Rock of Israel has said to me: When one rules justly over men, ruling in the fear of God, he dawns on them like the morning light, like the sun shining forth on a cloudless morning, like rain that makes grass to sprout from the earth.”

2 Samuel‬ ‭23:3-4‬ ‭ESV‬‬
https://www.bible.com/59/2sa.23.3-4.esv

“God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:

“How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Selah

Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall like any prince.”

Arise, O God, judge the earth; for you shall inherit all the nations!”

Reform the Church and ReEnchant the World with God’s Truth and Grace!

Enchant (latin: encantio): to speak meaning into.

If the church is not reenchanting this fallen world with God’s truth and grace, then it is being disenchanted with the lies of Satan!

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
Romans 10:14-15

Prayer, public witness of the church, and proclaiming God’s truth and grace.

Why are we here (in this sin fallen world)?
To bear witness to God and His truth and grace.
To make disciples of all nations.
Matthew 28:18-20

Why are we here (on the sidewalk outside an abortion clinic)?
To bear witness to God and His truth and grace.
To love the captive soul and to preach the good news!
Romans 10:14-15

What message are we sharing and bearing witness to?
There is a God that created the heavens and the earth.
We humans are created in His image.
We are sinners, we have rebelled against Him, and justly deserve our due punishment of death and damnation.
But God is merciful and loving.
Jesus is God the only begotten Son and He took our punishment upon Himself in our place.
Jesus rose from the dead, defeating death and securing the hope of our salvation.
We need only confess our sins, proclaim Jesus is lord and savior, and repent and we will be forgiven our sins and have life ever after!

Brothers, Let’s pray with ICHE this week for grace, energy, and endurance to pass on a Godly legacy. Pray that we, our spouses, the tutors, and all of our community’s families will continue into the new year with God’s grace and endurance instructing and discipling our children, shaping them like arrows to be launched into the future for God. https://iche.org/resource/blog/fill’er

If we have assumed… that our children learned what they needed to know simply by ecclesial and cultural osmosis, let us be clear that we may hold this assumption no longer. Household Prayer 10/19/2020

Brothers, let’s pray for the larger Bethany CC community this week. For good health as we enter cold and flu season. Pray for successful logistics around the holidays. Pray for the fruit of the Spirit to dwell in our households and our community: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. And that our community and families would bear witness to God. (Gal. 5:22-24)

Household Prayer 10/6/2020

This morning I was reading about “information warfare” for work. I thought about how Satan’s lies against God’s truth were the original information warfare. “Did God actually say…?” (Gen. 3:1)

So I wanted to pray that our children would be filled with the Holy Spirit and “the divine power to destroy strongholds.” That we would pass on our love of God and equip them through instruction so that they may “destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:3-6)

Heavenly Father, help us by Your Holy Spirit, to be examples to our children in prayer, in love, in evangelism, and in our handling of God’s word. To instruct them and equip them for the work you have prepared for them. (Eph. 2:10)

Read 2 Corinthians 10:3-6

“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.”

God Spoke the World into Existence!

‘The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. ‘

Genesis 1:2-3 https://my.bible.com/bible/59/GEN.1.2-3

“And God said…” God spoke the world into existence. He enchanted, spoke meaning into, existence.

Satan disenchanted the world.

‘Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say…” ‘

Genesis 3:1 https://my.bible.com/bible/59/GEN.3.1

When God’s truth is not spoken in the world, the world is disenchanted. Lies and darkness fill the void.

Good News! God ReEnchants the World!

‘ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. ‘

Train and Equip to Properly Wield the Sword, God’s Word, to ReEnchant the World!

Beware the black magic: “so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes…

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:25‬ ‭ESV‬‬
https://www.bible.com/59/eph.4.25.esv

Do not speak black magic: “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths…

Be the good magic: “but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:29‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Avoid the black magic: “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness…

Be children of good magic: “but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light”

Household Prayer 9/22/2020

There are a few events happening locally and nationally. So lets focus this week on family and national revival.

Pray that a real spiritual and familial revival will take place in our homes, churches, and America even as the nation seeks to redefine God’s plan for the family. Pray for there to be an increased dependence upon God the Father as we lead our children spiritually, emotionally, physically and academically.

Read Ezra’s prayer of repentance, Ezra 9:6-15.

Pray that a real spiritual and familial revival will take place in America even as the nation seeks to redefine God’s plan for the family.

And now for a little while grace has been shown from the Lord our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a peg in His holy place, that our God may enlighten our eyes and give us a measure of revival in our bondage.–Ezra 9:8 (NKJV)

The living, the living, he thanks you, as I do this day; the father makes known to the children your faithfulness. –Is. 38:19

To know God.

This week let’s pray that our families would come to know God in new and profound ways. That our knowledge of God would have an impact on our children’s education and understanding of His creation.

Read Psalm 19.

“Western civilization is the product of the Reformation. The Reformers threw open the windows of God’s light after a thousand years of spiritual and cultural darkness.”
The Barbarians are Here: Preventing the Collapse of Western Civilization in Times of Terrorism by Michael Youssef

Hope for civilization (highlights)

  • Find the faithful remnant in the church. (Eph. 4, Matt. 16:18)
  • Study and proclaim the pure Gospel (1 Cor. 15:1-8), contend for the faith against false gospels. (Jude)
  • Focus on Jesus. Reform society with truth and grace, not Marxist (anti-Christ) social justice. Reenchant the culture with God’s truth. (Matt. 4:18-30, Matt. 5:11-16, Matt. 28:18-20)
  • Fear God more than man.
  • Repent of timid lukewarmness.
  • Be about the business of making disciples that make disciples.

“So we must speak the truth, but we must always speak the truth in love. We must speak rationally, reasonably, with hearts full of love for those who are teaching falsehood. Don’t expect to be loved in return. Often, in their attempts to intimidate and silence us, apostates will accuse us of being unloving and even hateful.” https://a.co/29hwHt2

  • Reach the lost and equip the saints for the work of ministry. (Eph. 4:12)
  • The Gospel of the Kingdom must be proclaimed to the world. (Matt. 24:14)
  • Speak the truth in love. (Gal. 6:1, Eph. 4:11-15)

“We have to change our church philosophy from telling to training.”

  • People, not buildings.
  • Community not crowds.
  • Training not just telling. True Jesus discipleship: “come follow me”
  • Prayer not programs.
  • Hard truths not just positive suggestions. (Acts 17:1-10, 1 Peter 4:14, 2 Tim. 3:12, Heb. 10:32-36)
  • Christ is head of the church! (Rev. 2:10)

Homeschool: Fear God

Fear God

Knowledge is a grace of God. It is a gift and kindness of God.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭ESV‬‬
https://www.bible.com/59/pro.1.7.esv

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭9:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬
https://www.bible.com/59/pro.9.10.

Knowledge and wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord. God must be acknowledged, revered, loved, and feared!

Rejection of God

What about those who do not fear God?

“Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices. For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them;”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭1:29-32‬ ‭ESV‬‬
https://www.bible.com/59/pro.1.29-32.esv

See if you can recognize our world and it’s knowledge from Romans 1:18-32?

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools,

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:18, 21-22, 24, 26-28‬ ‭ESV‬‬
https://www.bible.com/59/rom.1.18,21-22,24,26-28.esv

Forgetting God

I observe today a timid church that has no influence on the culture. A church that has forgotten its fear of God.

“For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them;”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭1:32‬ ‭ESV‬‬
https://www.bible.com/59/pro.1.32.esv

Complacency: Ease, prosperity, complacency

“For ease slaieth the foolish, and the prosperitie of fooles destroyeth them.” Proverbs 1:32 GNV https://www.bible.com/2163/pro.1.32.gnv

“For the waywardness of the naive will kill them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them.” Proverbs 1:32 NASB https://www.bible.com/100/pro.1.32.nasb

“For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, And the careless ease of fools shall destroy them.” Proverbs 1:32 ASV https://www.bible.com/12/pro.1.32.asv

When life is good, easy, prosperous, we can tend toward fearing what might disrupt our comfort more than fearing the God of all comfort! What could disrupt our comfort? Man’s opinion of us and our beliefs? Being considered hateful and bigoted for standing on truth? Losing a job for our convictions?

What could we reap if we sow complacency and forget our fear of God?

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”
‭‭Hosea‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭ESV‬‬
https://www.bible.com/59/hos.4.6.esv

Love God!

This is why we homeschool! We want our children to know God!

We seek first God’s kingdom.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:33‬ ‭ESV‬‬
https://www.bible.com/59/mat.6.33.esv

We seek to obey God’s commands.

“”Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭6:4-7‬ ‭ESV‬‬
https://www.bible.com/59/deu.6.4-7.esv

Our children bear the image of God. Gen. 1:27

Render to God the things that are God’s. Matt. 22:21

Let the children come to Jesus and do not hinder them. Matt. 19:14

We seek to instruct our children to know, love, and fear God! To know Him and make Him known.

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬
https://www.bible.com/59/eph.6.4.esv

We rejoice with the saints at the wedding feast of the Lamb!

“Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready;”

Live for God!

For this purpose we homeschool:

To reform the church.

No longer walk as unbelievers do. Eph. 4:17

Put off your unbelieving way of life. Eph. 4:22

Be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Eph. 4:23

Do not be deceived by the sons of disobedience. Eph. 5:6

To reenchant the world with the grace and truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ!

“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””

The Cosmic Battle

You, mothers and fathers, your homeschooling households are on the front line of the Cosmic spiritual battle!

I do not mean this lightly. You are critical in the effort to reform a complacent church with the fear of God and reenchant a disenchanted world with the grace and truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ, “who is blessed forever! Amen.” (Romans 1:25)

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.

To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.”
